As the Co-Directors of this landmark study, we welcome you to the HRS website. Here you will find a wide array of information and materials related to the study, including design and sampling information, documentation, datasets available for download, and papers and publications.
Our main purpose is to collect a wide array of survey and other data to support scientific research and to inform policymakers. Our most valuable assets are our study respondents, and we strive to maintain the highest levels of data confidentiality to protect their privacy. To that end, we hold a National Institute of Health Certificate of Confidentiality which protects the HRS data from subpoena, court order, and other forced disclosure.
We sincerely thank the funders of the HRS. Most of our funding since the start of the study in 1990 has been provided by the National Institute of Aging, with co-funding from the Social Security Administration.
