RAND HRS 2016 Data Now Available

June 11, 2019 (updated July 2, 2019)

The following RAND HRS 2016 data products are now available:

  • RAND HRS 2016 Fat File – this file contains most of the original HRS variables from household and respondent level core modules. The data are merged to the respondent level. There is one file for each survey year.

  • RAND HRS Longitudinal File 2016 (V1) – this file is a user-friendly file derived from all waves of the HRS. It is a respondent-level file containing cleaned and processed variables with consistent naming conventions, model-based imputations for missing data, and spousal counterparts of most individual-level variables.

  • RAND HRS Detailed Imputations File 2016 (V1) – this file contains the component and ownership variables for all waves that are used in the income, wealth, and medical expenditures summary measures found in the RAND HRS Longitudinal File. It is distributed as a companion file to the RAND HRS Longitudinal File, and is especially useful for those who require more detail than that found in the RAND HRS Longitudinal File.

The RAND Center for the Study of Aging creates the RAND HRS data products under subcontract from HRS. The HRS and the RAND products are supported by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
