Abstract

Loneliness (subjective feeling of lacking
connection) and social isolation (objective deficit in
number of relationships or contact with others) are
common at the end of life and can be detrimental to
quality of life. In a national sample of decedents, we
examine which physical and psychological symptoms
are linked to end-of-life loneliness and social isolation.
