ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH AND RECEIPT AND TIMING OF TOTAL KNEE AND HIP ARTHROPLASTY

Total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is a highly effective treatment for managing symptomatic hip or knee osteoarthritis in older adults, but patients from disadvantaged backgrounds often do not receive timely surgical care, if at all. We leverage data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) to examine associations between three disparity domains on TJA receipt and timing among individuals with pre-operative TJA need from a nationally representative survey of community dwelling Americans aged 51 and older.
