Abstract

This article describes questions used on the first wave of the AHEAD study to measure ADL limitations. It assesses their cross-sectional measurement properties and compares them to parrellel questions that have been asked on other elderly surveys. Answers given by the same individuals to different versions of the ADL questions are compared and the analysis shows that there is a large amount of measurement error in these reports.
