Abstract

As the population of those aged 65 and older increases, it is important to support programs designed to improve the well-being and quality of life for this population. The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community has a history of oppression, discrimination, and social isolation, and many older adults are significantly at risk for poorer health outcomes. The purpose of this project was to develop a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for LGBT older adults currently receiving services at the LGBT Center in Long Beach, California. The proposed program will be an 8-week mindfulness based program focused on stress management in order to improve their overall well-being and quality of life. After a comprehensive search of funding agencies, the best fit of a funder for this program was the David Bohnett Foundation. The actual submission or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of this grant proposal.
