Cross-Wave Geographic Information (State) [1992-2022]

This data set contains state-level geographic information for respondents interviewed in interview years 1992 through 2022, matching the 2022 tracker file. It is released in conjunction with the restricted Cross-Wave Geographic Information (Detail), Respondent Region and Mobility (public), Parent State (restricted) and Child ZIP Code (restricted). These five products contain all restricted geographic information available for HRS respondents as of 2022. The files are keyed on Household ID (HHID) and Person number (PN).

For HRS Wave 1 (1992), AHEAD Wave 1 (1993), CODA/War Baby (1998), EBB (2004), MBB (2010), LBB (2016) and EGENX (2022) respondents, geographic identifiers reflect residence of respondent as recorded in the administrative database at baseline. For all other waves, geographic identifiers are based on the ISR administrative record of where the interview was conducted. This location was not necessarily the respondent's legal address.
