Documentation and Links |
The Social Security Weights data is comprised of two sets of files as described below:
-
1992, 1998, 2004 Weights: three respondent-level, cross-sectional files, each containing one set of SS weights: 1992 (n=12651), 1998 (n=22879), and 2004 (n=21820). In this file, RwWTSSR is the respondent-level weight in various waves, where w is 1 for 1992, 4 for 1998, and 7 for 2004. RwWTSSH is the household-level weight and w follows the same numbering convention.
-
2004-2016 Weights: one file (SSWTGSJP_R) containing cross-wave weight information for 2004-2016 (n=32,533). The 2004 weights in this file replace the 2004 respondent-level weights distributed in prior versions of this product. The main difference between the old and new 2004 respondent weights is that the new weight includes more people with a positive weight because more respondents have now been linked. In the 2004-2016 file, two respondent weights are provided for each wave, one for respondents who have a SS linkage in that wave (SSWGTSw_CUR), and one for respondents who have ever had a SS linkage (SSWGTSw_EV). In this file, w is J for 2004, K for 2006, L for 2008, M for 2010, N for 2012, O for 2014, and P for 2016.
